At the seaside with the dog – a holiday story by Rolf, Gabi & Hasso

Our experience report about our holiday at ostseequelle.camp – between nature, comfort and Baltic Sea adventure.

  • Day 1: Arrival
  • Day 2: Dog Beach
  • Day 3: Walkies & Surroundings
  • Day 4: Trip to Wismar & Boltenhagen
  • Day 5: Departure

Day 1: Arrival at the Camping Paradise

Camping with a dog on the Baltic Sea is a dream for many – we, Rolf (59), Gabi (56) and our Labrador Hasso (9), have lived that dream at ostseequelle.camp.

The online booking went smoothly. In booking step 2, we were able to register Hasso directly as a fellow traveller. On arrival, we were welcomed warmly. Check-in was swift – and automatic via number plate – and we were soon settled on our reserved pitch. Brilliant for dogs and owners alike!

Hasso immediately inspected his new territory: grass, shade, his water bowl. We enjoyed the evening in our camping chairs as the sun slowly set over the Baltic Sea. The site is peaceful, well-kept, and the shower and toilet facilities are thoroughly modern.

Important for all camping enthusiasts with dogs: The site has the usual rules for dogs.

Day 2: A Day at the Beach with the Dog

After breakfast – fresh bread rolls are available directly on site, by the way – we set off for the dog beach. It’s about 400 metres away. Simply follow the path along the campsite, then through a small patch of woodland, and soon we could hear the sound of the waves.

The dog-friendly section of beach is clean, starts at Tamila, is 400 m wide, generously sized and pleasantly busy with other dog lovers – without feeling overcrowded. Hasso romped through the sand, splashed about in the shallow water, and even found a playmate – an energetic terrier by the name of Bruno.

We relaxed in our beach chairs, read a book and soaked up the sea air. It was the perfect holiday day for humans and animals alike. The friendly atmosphere amongst dog owners added to the sense of relaxation – here, people are happy to share treats and walking tips.

Day 3: Out and About in the Area – Nature, Walkies & Adventure

The following day we explored the walking routes around Niendorf. There is a short loop of 800 m, a medium-length route of 1.5 km to the Tamila Beach Club, and the long circuit of 6 km via Wohlenhagen and back.

We opted for the extended tour – Hasso loves variety. Along the way we encountered walkers, cyclists and fellow dog owners. Friendly faces everywhere, and at the entrances to the campsite there are complimentary dog waste bags available for walks!

In the afternoon we treated ourselves to a session in the sauna in the cedar wood barrel with a woodland panorama – meanwhile Hasso rested contentedly on our pitch.

Day 4: Day Trip with the Dog to Wismar & Boltenhagen

To round off our short break, we made a half-day trip to Wismar. The Hanseatic town is charming, dog-friendly and reachable by car in 15 minutes. Hasso was welcome to join us through the old town – many cafés put out water bowls for dogs.

We strolled across the market square, visited the Old Harbour and treated ourselves to a fish roll – Hasso received a piece of rollmop herring. Afterwards we continued on to Boltenhagen, a Baltic seaside resort with a pier and promenade. Here too, plenty of friendly people and animal-loving restaurateurs.

Back at the campsite, we rounded off the final evening with a cool drink and dog biscuits. Hasso snored away in the awning, whilst we looked back on an unforgettable camping holiday with a dog on the Baltic Sea.
